Merritt Carothers
City Council, Place 4

Merritt Carothers has served our city as councilman since 2008. Throughout his service, he has been fortunate to aid in the advancement of numerous community operations, like the expansion of the Taylor City Park and the resurfacing of the Taylor Made Festival.

Merritt graduated from Dothan High School in 1984. Following graduation, he attended Wallace Community College and Troy University, Dothan. During that time, Carothers answered the call to serve his country through the Alabama Army National Guard. Sergeant First Class Carothers completed twenty years in the 131st Armor Battalion of the National Guard as a Platoon Sergeant and Tank Commander, earning him full veteran honors. Since his retirement from the National Guard in 2006, he remains in the inactive ready reserves. Currently, Merritt works on the defense contract at Fort Rucker as an Armament Technician, a position he has held since 1985.

Merritt is a member of First United Methodist Church in Dothan, the same place he and his wife, Paula, were married in 1992. The couple has two children, Zachary and Katherine, both of whom are proud alumnus of Auburn University.
